Melco Resorts & Entertainment Japan, a subsidiary of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, which is aiming to develop an IR in Yokohama, has signed a partner contract with Yokohama F. Marinos football club that will see the two provide support for select shopping streets across the city.
The “Stay Strong Together and Support our Hometown Shopping Streets!” project will start in April 2021 with the aim of helping local shops in Yokohama, Yokosuka and Yamato that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 300 shopping streets applied in February with five streets eventually chosen after a careful selection process. On Sunday 14 March, the representatives of each shopping street were invited to a home game of Yokohama F. Marinos at Nissan Stadium to announce the project.
The project will produce a shopping street support video, introducing the participating streets with Yokohama F. Marinos players and will be broadcast on the Nissan Stadium large screens with the participating shopping street names in LED advertisements at home games.
There will also be tickets and signed goods given away, and social media posts to promote sales.
The hope is that via Melco’s ongoing sponsorship of Yokohama F. Marinos, the project will help increase awareness of shopping options.
