Inside Asian Gaming looks forward to providing guests with a unique new concept when it hosts popular networking social event Macau After Dark (MAD) this Friday 5 March at Portucau. The event will be the eighth edition of MAD, but the first for 2021.

Portucau is a new and unique Portuguese dining experience combining a Petiscos menu with a vintage “East meets West” ambience. Petiscos can be thought of as the Portuguese version of “tapas”, a very traditional gastronomical style in Portugal.

One of the first Petiscos restaurants in Macau was “3 Sardines”, a small establishment promoting a pure Petiscos concept without any main courses.

The Portucau concept aims to offer not only great Portuguese food, but to create a museum-like environment for people to learn more about Portuguese and local history. The space is filled with artifacts collected over a period of eight years on more than a dozen trips to Portugal.

Combined with local Asian vintage items gathered around Macau and Asia, the restaurant decor offers an interesting example of “East meeting West.” As you enter the restaurant you will encounter the centerpiece, a Datsun pickup truck from the 70s. Built in Japan, exported to Portugal and now back in Asia, the high table just behind the car is made with the original wood panel from the back of the cargo bed. If you take a closer look on the windshield, there’s a permit sticker which shows it was still on Portuguese roads until August 2015.

Above the car hang more than 30 traditional Chinese lanterns in an olive shape. The owner intentionally picked this shape and olive-green color to emphasize the unique mix of Portuguese and Chinese culture in Macau.

Portucau is located a very short stroll from Senado Square on the Macau Peninsula, thus the theme for this Friday’s Macau After Dark 8: Senado Square 1960 – One night to savor the vintage Macanese and Portuguese spirit.

“I welcome everyone to come to Portucau and thanks to IAG for hosting this wonderful event,” said Portucau’s Executive Chef, Pedro Almeida.

“Portucau is an ideal venue for hosting events like this. We position ourselves as a unique Portuguese restaurant concept promoting ‘petiscos’, meaning small delicacies.

“This dining style is similar to dim sum in local culture or tapas in Spain. Petiscos is a very traditional concept but has become more trendy in recent years. I hope all of our guests enjoy the experience!”

MAD is a regular series of industry networking social events held in Asia’s gaming hub of Macau. Each MAD brings together key industry decision-makers with the people they want to meet in a relaxed and friendly environment. A new venue is chosen for each event.

Note that from 2021, due its enormous popularity, MAD is now strictly by invitation only. Invited guests must RSVP, and be confirmed by having an event entry ticket on their phones. All guests must supply their business cards upon arrival. There is also a select VIP list for each event.
