The number of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) issued by Macau’s casino operators fell 36.5% year-on-year in 2020, according to statistics from the Financial Intelligence Office.
The total number of STRs from games of fortune in 2020 was 1,215, down from 1,913 in 2019, continuing a city-wide trend that saw a 24.4% decline in STRs across all industries to 2,224.
Financial institutions and insurance companies reported 667 suspicious transactions compared with 880 in the prior year period, while suspicious transactions from other institutions increased from 332 to 148.
Games of Fortune also comprised a lower percentage of all STRs in Macau in 2020 at 54.6%, compared with 65.0% in 2019.
