SkyCity Entertainment Group has closed its Adelaide Casino for at least the next six days after South Australian authorities implemented a strict six day lockdown aimed at combating an outbreak of COVID-19.
The southern Australian state reported its first case since April this week after a cleaner working in a quarantine hotel was infected before spreading the virus to family members.
The cluster has since spread to 22 cases, with the government announcing in Wednesday a short but comprehensive lockdown to prevent the cluster growing out of control. The lockdown will see all non-essential services, regional travel and gatherings banned.
It will also see Adelaide Casino shut down for the second time this year, with SkyCity stating, “The new AU$330 million SkyCity Adelaide expansion development, including the 120-room luxury hotel Eos by SkyCity, was scheduled to open in late November 2020. The opening will now be delayed in light of the latest restrictions.”
The closure is currently planned to conclude at midnight on 24 November.
