Hodo Nakamura, governor of Nagasaki prefecture, has spoken about the election of new Liberal Democratic Party leader, Yoshihide Suga, addressing various issues facing the prefecture including population decline, promotion of the Kyushu-Nagasaki Shinkansen infrastructure project and an IR bid.
“[I want Suga] to meet the expectations of the people through strong leadership,” Nakamura stated, adding he hoped for further support from Suga for the prefecture’s ambitions.
Nagasaki is aiming to develop an IR in the area next to Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo City, and has been working in an All-Kyushu partnership, also including Okinawa and Yamaguchi prefectures.
Casinos Austria International, Oshidori International Holdings, and Current Corp have all replied to the prefecture’s Request for Concept. They have also all indicated their willingness to participate in the RFP.
However, the pandemic has taken its toll along with other factors, delaying the drafting of the national basic policy indefinitely. In response to potential operators expressing the difficulties with the latest travel restrictions, Nagasaki has announced that it will suspend its recruitment process for the time being.
