Yokohama city announced the results of accepting public comments on the “Yokohama IR Direction” on 28 August.
The city issued the a statement that read, “We are aiming to realize an integrated resort based on the Act on Promotion of Development of Specified Complex Tourist Facilities Areas as a way of pursuing growth and development to take us into the future amidst changes resulting in socio-economic conditions due to declining population and an aging society.
“In realizing a Yokohama IR, the ‘Yokohama IR Direction’, which consolidates the Yokohama IR basic concept and the direction to achieve that concept has been formulated based on current conditions and challenges the city faces, the basic policy of a Japanese IR and the idea of building the town around the Yokohama waterfront area.”
5,040 people and groups submitted a combined 9,509 comments, which were accepted from March to April. Of these comments, 387 were reflected in the draft and 39 parts of the “Yokohama IR Direction” were revised.
The “Yokohama IR Direction” was announced under the topic of realizing a Yokohama Innovation IR as a desirable international destination. It comes in at 106 pages and includes the background to the project, the direction of a Yokohama IR, the impact of an IR, efforts taken to educate and promote local consensus and the schedule.
The results of the public consultation came to 532 pages.
