Macau’s general unemployment rate for March to May 2020 reached 2.4%, and the unemployment rate of local residents 3.4%, representing increases of 0.2 and 0.3 percentage points respectively over with the previous period (February to April 2020). Compared with March to May 2019, the unemployment rate rose by 0.7 percentage points.
Figures released by the Statistics and Census Service also showed that the underemployment rate increased by 0.5 percentage points to 2.6%.
Unemployed numbers grew by 800 to 9,700 from the previous period, with most previously engaged in the “Retail Trade” and the “Gaming and Junket Activities” sectors.
Underemployed numbers increased by 2,300 to 10,600, while the majority of underemployed employees were working in “Gaming and Junket Activities,” the construction sector, “Retail Trade” and “Transport and Storage.”
