The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced Wednesday that the 31st Macao International Fireworks Display Contest, scheduled for late September, has been cancelled.
The MGTO pointed to the wide range of border control measures adopted by countries around the world as causing extreme difficulties in confirming a lineup of international contestants in accordance with the schedule, while the transportation of fireworks materials and related equipment was also certain to be affected.
The office plans to reschedule other events to the third and fourth quarters of this year, including the postponement of the 8th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo to September.
The International Dragon Boat Regatta Contest will still be held in June, but international teams will not be invited to compete.
