Around 1,400 people were undergoing mandatory quarantine in six hotels and one guest house in Macau as of Sunday as the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the SAR reached 22.
There are now five hotels in Cotai designated as quarantine bases – Pousada Marina Infante, Golden Crown China Hotel, Regency Art Hotel, Grand Coloane Resort and Treasure Hotel – while those on the Macau Peninsula are the Metropole Hotel and the two-star guest house San Tung Fong Commercial Inn.
The growing number of hotels being requisitioned comes as Macau residents continue to return home from Europe and North America. Anyone, including residents, returning from anywhere in the world other than mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan is required to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Macau reached 22 over the weekend, with 10 fully recovered and the 12 active cases currently in hospital and reportedly suffering from only mild symptoms.
Meanwhile, health officials have urged local residents to avoid non-essential trips to Hong Kong, warning of the possibility of a six to eight hour medical observation being imposed upon anyone returning to Macau.
