Just three days after assuring attendees the event would go ahead, Eventus International has announced that Indian gaming conference SPiCE – originally scheduled for 25 to 27 March, has been postponed.
The update comes after the Indian government issued a travel advisory canceling all existing visas for foreign nationals other than diplomatic and employment visas until 15 April 2020, aimed at curtailing the spread of the coronavirus.
“We are, at this time, left with no choice but to postpone SPiCE India 2020, which will be rescheduled,” the organizer said. “New dates will be announced shortly after discussions with our stakeholders and advisors.”
Eventus International’s Strategic Advisor in India, Jay Sayta, noted that, “No one has tested positive for COVID-19 in Goa to date and the situation appears to be normal. The government has however advised that everyone remains careful about their health and follows basic norms of hygiene at all times.”
The company said it has every intention to host SPiCE at a later date in 2020.
Postponement of the event follows similar rescheduling of other gaming industry events across Asia, including ASEAN in Manila and G2E Asia in Macau.
