Galaxy Entertainment Group’s new Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC) – part of Galaxy Macau’s ongoing Phase 3 development – will target the premium end of the MICE market with the aim of putting the SAR on the international MICE map.

New details of GICC are revealed by Galaxy’s Director of Operations Development for New Resort, Scott Kreeger, in an interview with industry publication MICE and Tourism around the World this month in which he explains how the company is looking to position Macau as a premium option for Asian business travellers.

“We target the premium end of the market,” Kreeger explains. “The conference center is designed more like a 5-star hotel conference center than an integrated international conference center. Design is to a very high finish: not only is it beautiful but we have put every bit of modern technology and infrastructure into it, from wifi network and utility trenching to expo floors and probably the largest LED digital screen of any international conference center in Asia.

“We also have over 400 digital displays, some as long as 75 meters, starting from the outside and extending through function areas and into meeting rooms to create extraordinary experiences for meeting planners and delegates.

“So GICC has great infrastructure, great technology and added to that is a 5-star luxury hotel (Andaz Macau) located on top of it. You can literally get in the elevator, push the button and go to your conference room. This direct connection makes us unique among integrated resorts.”

Asked about Galaxy’s role in boosting Macau as an attractive destination for greater global visitation, Kreeger said the city’s gaming operators and the government were “all trying to present Macau as a premium choice for Macau in Asia.

“Everyone is aligned with this aim and our policies and pricing are all agreed for the greater good,” he said. “What sets us apart is that we play at the premium level of the market. Ultimately we have 12 of the world’s top international hotel brands in our complex – it will be the largest compilation of luxury properties in the world.

“We also cater to a more refined customer base, so that level of service quality and excellence, knowing the mainland Chinese customer base as well as we do, is our base niche. Our target region is mainly China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Japan but we will also play internationally because you have to, so we will be at major events around the world making sure GICC has a presence on the world stage for the MICE sector.”
