CLAIMS TO FAME
• Valuable asset in Macau Fisherman’s Wharf as its redevelopment moves forward
• Aggressive overseas expansion plans in Cape Verde and Laos
THE man behind the vast expanse of waterfront space that is Macau Fisherman’s Wharf (MFW) is none other than David Chow.
A former Macau legislator, Chow heads Macau Legend Development Ltd, whose long-stated ambition has been to transform MFW into a vibrant, buzzing hotspot to challenge the big guns in Cotai. That ambition may well prove a step too far, but progress has been made – most notably the 2017 opening of integrated resort Legend Palace.
Macau Legend also owns Babylon Casino, the Harbourview Hotel and Rocks Hotel in the precinct.
Beyond Macau’s borders, the company is looking to expand its current portfolio further into Laos and potentially through Cambodia and Vietnam. Chow’s firm is currently preparing for Phase 2 development of its Savan Resorts property in Savannakhet, and has acquired land near Siem Reap in Cambodia while studying the Vietnam market for future opportunities.
Macau Legend also completed the acquisition of a 21.5% stake in Lai Ieng Investment Company Limited – a company developing a large-scale shopping complex in Hengqin – in 2019.
Could Macau Legend even put its hand up for a seventh Macau casino license once the current batch expire in 2022?
