The number of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) issued by Macau’s casino operators fell 18.1% through the first nine months of 2019, according to statistics from the Financial Intelligence Office.
STRs from games of fortune numbered 1,382 between January and September, down from 1,687 in the prior year period.
The total number of STRs from all sectors declined 32.2% from 3,079 to 2,089, with those from financial institutions and insurance companies down from 912 to 640. There were just 67 STRs from other institutions compared with 480 in the first nine months of 2018.
While the number of reports declined in all segments, STRs from the gaming industry comprised a larger percentage of reports than previously with 66.2% of STRs compared with 54.8% during the same period last year.
