Wakayama saw a resolution passed on the final day of its monthly prefectural Assembly stipulating that the local government will proactively promote an IR, according to Wakayama Shimpo.
A total of 40 items of the governor’s proposal were passed, including a JPY767.21 million increase to the FY19 supplementary budget.
The resolution is expected to support efforts to develop an IR while contributing to the future development of the prefecture, including creation of new industry, tourism and jobs, financial improvements and reducing population decline. It states, “There should be active promotion of an IR such as fostering opportunities for reaching local agreement” so that the area can be chosen as one of the three sites for IR facilities.
Wakayama hopes to build an IR at Marina City, with Philippines-based Bloomberry Resorts, Hong Kong’s Suncity Group and French casino operator Barrière among those to have revealed their interest in the area.
