It’s tough to be patient and even more so for a certain Tomakomai Mayor. The Nikkei is reporting that Tomakomai mayor Hirofumi Iwakura – who has been proactive in support of an IR – met with members of the Liberal Democratic Party, which is the largest parliamentary party in Hokkaido, and requested efforts to promote Hokkaido for an IR as well as an early decision on the matter from Governor Naomichi Suzuki.
The mayor clearly stated on the request, “I strongly urge you to make a decision on the matter of IR as governor as quickly as possible.”
Mayor Iwakura called for understanding of his viewpoint, elaborating that this was a challenge he had taken on in order to leave something for future generations of Hokkaido.
Tomakomai city’s Uenae area is the key candidate site for an IR bid, but a final decision has not yet been made.
