The number of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) issued by Macau’s casino operators fell 14.4% year-on-year in the first six months of 2019, according to statistics from the Financial Intelligence Office.
The total number of STRs from casinos was 966, down from 1,128, continuing a city-wide trend that saw a 37.1% decline in STRs across all industries – led by financial institutions and insurance companies who reported 381 suspicious transactions compared with 617 in the prior year period.
While casino STRs fell, they comprised a larger proportion of all Macau STRs at 70.2%, up from 51.6% in 1H18.
