Las Vegas Sands Corp boss Sheldon Adelson has been named the highest paid CEO in Nevada in 2018 with a total pay package of US$24 million.
Adelson was one of only two gaming industry executives named on the list of last year’s top CEOs by state, as calculated by The Associated Press and Equilar, coming in slightly ahead of Kentucky’s William Carstanjen, CEO of Churchill Downs, at US$21.1 million.
Norwegian Cruise Lines President and CEO Frank Del Rio was the highest earning CEO in Florida in 2018 with total pay of US$22.6 million.
The 2018 list, published over the weekend, considers only listed companies with revenue of at least US$1 billion and who filed their proxy statements with federal regulators between 1 January and 30 April 2019.
To qualify, CEOs were required to have served in the role for at least two years. Their pay was calculated by adding together their salary, bonuses, stock awards, stock options and deferred compensation.
Adelson, whose duties have been restricted since late 2018 as he undergoes treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, ranked 12th of all 50 state leading CEOs with the highest paid of all being none other than Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who topped California with a paycheck of US$2.28 billion.
LVS Managing Director of Global Development, George Tanasijevich, stated earlier this month that Adelson is “doing quite well.”
