Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited has launched a new sustainability strategy called “Above & Beyond” following the release if its 2018 Sustainability Report.
The report outlines ambitious goals, actionable targets and enhances Melco’s disclosure around key environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues that are critical to the company’s business, it said in a media release on Monday.
The “Above and Beyond” strategy aims to meet four key goals by 2030: achieving carbon neutral resorts with reduction targets across a range of emission sources; achieving zero waste across its resorts including eliminating single-use plastics in daily operations; being the employer of choice and creating the best-in-class working environment for its employees; and inspiring guests by seamlessly integrating sustainability in their experience.
Melco said the goals will be implemented across all of Melco’s operations via measures related to environmental sustainability, responsible gaming, employee and community engagement as well as governance and ethics.
Melco recently promised to eliminate all single-use plastic bottles from its Asian-based resorts and corporate offices by the end of 2020 after becoming a signatory to The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment program.
“I believe that everyone has a role to play in tackling our society’s major environmental and social challenges,” said Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho.
“This report captures Melco’s vision for change and our commitment to embrace sustainability as both an engine for growth and a catalyst for change within our company and the industry.
“Since the beginning, Melco strives to be a game-changer in everything that we do. ‘Above & Beyond’ is our commitment to make our business sustainable for all those involved, and to deliver a more sustainable future to local communities in Macau, Manila, Cyprus and now in Japan.”
