Osaka prefecture officials have outlined their desire for any integrated resort to be built within the city to include an international conference hall with capacity for more than 5,000 people.
The city’s conference plans were discussed during a meeting between industry experts and the city promotion council earlier this week. A 5,000-capacity conference hall would almost double the size of Osaka’s largest existing venue which can accommodate 2,700 people. It would also place it among the five largest conference venues in Asia.
The Japanese government has named MICE facilities as one of the key drivers of visitation to the nation’s IRs.
This week’s meeting also discussed the way forward for Osaka’s IR plans, including the process of selecting an operator partner and the development of maintenance plans. The city has already chosen Yumeshima Island as the site for any successful IR bid, with officials hoping construction of an IR could aid hosting of World Expo 2025.
