Receipts from gaming related services in Macau increased 18.7% to MOP$267.9 billion in 2017, marking the first year-on-year increase since 2014 according to new figures releases by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) this week.
According to the DSEC’s gaming sector survey for 2017, receipts received directly from gaming grew 18.9% to MOP$266.5 billion while industry-related food and beverage sales increased 11.9% to MOP$567 million.
Interest receipts dropped by 10.9% year-on-year to MOP$147 million owing to a decrease in deposits.
Total expenditure of the gaming sector amounted to MOP$114.89 billion, up by 18.5% year-on-year. It included a 23.0% increase in expenditure on Purchase of Goods, Commission Paid and Customer Rebate to MOP$60.9 billion, comprising 53.0% of the total.
Operating Expenses increased by 16.7% year-on-year to MOP$27.9 billion, with compensation paid to employees rising 7.4% year-on-year to MOP$21.3 billion.
Macau’s gaming sector added MOP$179.1 billion in gross value to the economy, up by 17.6% on 2016 levels, with gross surplus growing 19.1% to MOP$157.74 billion.
