The number of guests in Macau’s hotels and guesthouses grew by 4.7% in May to 1,178,000, including an 11.0% increase in guests from mainland China, according to latest statistics releases by the Statistics and Census Service.
The growth was aided by a 6.4% increase in the number of rooms in Macau to 39,000, with the number of 5-star rooms up 8.5% to 24,000 and representing 61.4% of all rooms.
The average length of stay of guests rose by 0.1 nights year-on-year to 1.5 nights while the average occupancy rate grew by 1.8% to 87.0%.
In the first five months of 2018, guests of hotels and guesthouses totaled 5,712,000, up 8.2% year-on-year. The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses rose by 4.3 percentage points to 88.7% and the average length of stay of guests increased by 0.1 nights year-on-year to 1.5 nights.
