Full-time employees in local hotels increased 4.8% year-on-year to over 57,000 in the first quarter of 2018, while domestic restaurants had 26,810 full-time employees in the same period, up 7.3% year-on-year, according to the latest survey on Manpower Needs and Wages released by the Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
There were 2,184 vacancies at local hotels at the end of 1Q18 and 2,294 in restaurants. 64.9% and 46.8% of the vacancies in hotels required knowledge of Mandarin and English respectively.
Recruitment rate at hotels in 1Q18 was 5.8% and the job vacancy rate 3.7%, up 1.6 and 0.3 percentage points respectively year-on-year.
A release by the Macau Government Information Bureau stated that the data confirms that manpower situation in the industry has not improved.
On the other hand, the total number of employees attending training courses provided by companies increased 46.8% year-on-year in the period. Hotel workers comprised the bulk of the attendees with most attending services courses.
