Local authorities have raided and shut down all currency exchange operations in the underground mall of Gongbei Port – located alongside the border gate to Macau – following a major police operation over the weekend.
According to Chinese media reports, more than 100 police officers conducted a major sweep of the mall on Saturday afternoon and detained a number of staff working at currency exchange stores, who had black hoods placed over their heads.
The stores remained closed as of Sunday night with reports stating that all currency had been confiscated.
IAG will bring you further details as they emerge.
