A 9.2% year-on-year increase in the number of tourists (3,352,000) visiting Macau during the first quarter of 2018 resulted in the average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses hitting 88.8%, up 6.3% compared to the same period in 2017, official government figures show.
March’s average occupancy rate increased 5.1% year-on-year to 87%, with the figure for 5-star hotels rising 9.4% year-on-year to 90.1%.
The number of guests of hotels and guesthouses in March increased 8.2% year-on-year to 1,143,000, with visitors from Mainland China (768,000), the Republic of Korea (41,000), Hong Kong (131,000) and Taiwan up 9.5%, 11.2%, 1.2% and 4.1% respectively.
The number of guest rooms in Macau grew by 6.4% year-on-year to 39,000, with 5-star hotel rooms up 8.5% to 24,000, accounting for 61.2% of the total.
The Information issued by the Macau Statistics and Census Service also showed that visitors on package tours in the first quarter of 2018 totaled 2,144,000, up 23.8% year-on-year. March visitor numbers on package tours saw an increase of 12.4% year-on-year to 730,000, with a month-to-month increase of 19.3%.
