Macau’s Judiciary Police say they have captured a former employee of a Peninsula casino VIP room believe to have stolen HK$5 million in cash and HK$430,000 in chips in March 2016.
The man was allegedly handed keys to the cage for “safekeeping” by a colleague but instead stole the cash and chips before fleeing to mainland China. The Judiciary Police contacted the Guangdong Public Security Department to assist in pursuing the involved man via Interpol Macao, Sub-Bureau of NCB China.
He was eventually tracked down and arrested on 2 October by police in Zhongshan city before being handed over to Macau’s Judiciary Police on 6 October. In a statement, the Judiciary Police said the man faces the offence of “abuse of trust (massive amount).”
The location of the stolen funds is yet to be identified.
