LVS Corp. says the MICE facilities at Marina Bay Sands, the company’s new integrated resort in Singapore, are on schedule to open at the end of 2009 but ‘major’ events will not be held there until the first quarter of 2010.
This raises the question of why a developer would go to the trouble of getting a facility open in time for the Western and Chinese end-of-year festive seasons, and then not book events to exploit the commercial opportunities they offer. Could it be that LVS is concerned that putting the whole of the MICE facility opening back to 2010 would send exactly the wrong signal to jumpy analysts?
