China will build 97 new civil airports in the next 11 years, taking the national total to 244 by 2020, says the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The number of airports in northwest China will more than double, from 24 to 50. One effect of the airport boom will be to open new domestic markets for Macau by placing more cities within easy traveling time of the casino jurisdiction.
It’s understood some of the airport projects may be part of the USD600 billion economic stimulus package announced by the government, while others are ones previously planned.
