Macau’s hotel occupancy rate rose 33.9 percentage points year-on-year to 74.7% in the first quarter of 2023, while the number of guests increased 96.3% to 2.7 million.
According to the Statistics and Census Bureau, the average room occupancy rate reached 77.0% in March, up 46.3 percentage points, with the occupancy rate of five-star hotels at 77.2%, up 50.2 percentage points year-on-year.
The number of hotel guests in March grew by 164% year-on-year to 972,000 of which 694,000 guests were from mainland China. There were also 186,000 from Hong Kong and 13,000 from Taiwan, although the number of local guests fell by 31.4% to 49,000.
The average length of stay also decreased by 0.2 nights to 1.6 nights.
A total of 126 hotel establishments provided accommodation services to the public in March, up 6 year-on-year, with the number of rooms available increasing by 0.7% to 39,000.
Package tours also saw a strong uptick, with 93,000 visitors arriving as part of tour groups in March. This comprised the majority of the 110,000 arrivals on such package tours through the entirety of the first quarter.
